Commercial Crab Season
The commercial Dungeness crab season, which was scheduled to open on Nov 15, 2020, has been delayed due to the presence of whales and the elevated risk of marine life entanglement.

The commercial season has been delayed until at least Wednesday, December 16, 2020. California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is working with the California Dungeness Crab Fishing Gear Working Group to evaluate if the risk of entanglement has subsided or if an additional delay is needed to protect marine life.

For crab season updates please visit the CDFW newsroom.

2020-21 Dredging Operations
Entrance Channel Dredging Update
The dredge crew continues to work to deepen the federal entrance channel. Though sand will continue to be transported into the harbor entrance with winter storms, the favorable weather and sea conditions have allowed the crew to extend to the jetty mouth and deepen areas directly at the entrance. To view the most recent sounding, please click here.

During dredging operations, pass Twin Lakes on the east side (Crow's Nest side) of the channel unless otherwise marked. Stay at least 50' from the dredge. When dredging is underway, contact the crew for passing instructions on VHF channel 8.
North Harbor Dredging Update
The crew recently completed dredging of the north harbor turning basin and is currently working in the X/J channel, digging north toward the culverts. The crew continues to dig on the western side of the channel and is making progress restoring depths in the fairway and berthing areas.

Please read all gate notices and beware of submerged pipe and equipment hazards when operating in the area. Harbor staff will be in contact with boat owners who may be in areas slated for dredging.

Life Ring & Self-Rescue Ladder Map
Please take a moment to review the locations of life rings and self-rescue ladders that are located throughout the harbor, for your safety. Maintenance staff are working to add this important safety equipment in the north harbor.
