Important safety reminder for boaters!
Did you know that pursuant to Santa Cruz Municipal Code, the area between Abbott Lighthouse at Steamer's Lane and the tip of the west jetty is a designated 5-knot speed limit zone?
With an increase of boating activity and water use during the summer months, please be mindful of this regulation when underway in this area. Keep a sharp lookout for swimmers, paddle boarders, and kayakers, and go slow in this zone.

In accordance with regulatory permits, north harbor dredging is anticipated to begin in early-October 2020. Slip licensees will be notified if their vessel is in an affected area and needs to be temporarily relocated.
Entrance dredging is permitted to commence November 1 each year. Once Twin Lakes is deployed to the entrance, and all equipment is mobilized, entrance dredging operations will continue through April 2021.
The typical dredge schedule is Monday - Thursday, with maintenance performed on Fridays. Boaters are advised to proceed with caution in areas of the harbor with dredge equipment and pay special attention to all safety notifications. Replacement Patrol Vessel Update
Deputy Harbormaster staff is working with representatives of Moose Boats ("Moose") to finalize design plans and specifications for the District’s new patrol vessel. Moose has ordered and received the metal necessary to fabricate the vessel and it is currently being stored on-site at their manufacturing facility in Vallejo. Fabrication of smaller components and systems is currently underway, but the major framework will likely begin in late-fall, as space becomes available at their facility. Once the major framework starts, construction is expected to take 6-8 months.
The procurement of the new patrol vessel would not be possible without the generous grant funding provided by the State of California Natural Resources Agency. This grant funding will ensure that Harbor Patrol can continue to provide marine search and rescue for the community and boating public in the north Monterey Bay for decades to come.
