Do you need to surrender your vessel?
|
Proper vessel disposal is a vital part of clean and responsible boating because there are environmental hazards associated with vessels, including oil, solvents, batteries, and other toxic wastes. It is important that all vessel owners properly dispose of their vessels at the appropriate time.
The Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange (SAVE) program provides an alternative for boat owners to surrender unwanted recreational vessels to participating local public agencies, in lieu of abandonment. The Port District currently has grant funding available and is accepting a limited number of vessels to participate in the program. The following criteria apply:
- Only recreational vessels are eligible.
- Commercial vessels are not eligible.
- Vessel can be berthed in the water or brought to the harbor via trailer.
- Vessel does not have to be currently registered.
- Registered vessel owner must be present at time of turn-in.
For additional information on this no-cost disposal program, please contact Assistant Harbormaster Sean Rothwell at (831) 475-6161 or srothwell@santacruzharbor.org.

September is Coastal Clean-Up Month
|
September is California Coastal Cleanup Month, and here are two ways you can participate:
1. Coastal Cleanup Day: Help remove the trash and plastic pollution at beaches and waterways. Save Our Shores will be hosting dozens of cleanups along the Central Coast on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 9 am-12 pm. Register to volunteer today, click here!
2. Self-guided Cleanups: Participate throughout the month by cleaning your neighborhoods, parks, and other local areas. Trash from inland areas flows downstream to the coast, so cleaning up neighborhood trash prevents marine debris. Gather cleanup supplies from home, download the CleanSwell app (to count your trash, and to have your trash counted!), and clean on your own time throughout September.
However you choose to participate, thank you for keeping our beaches and waterways clean and healthy!
