Slip renter parking stickers will be available for pickup on March 1, 2021. All licensees of record must present identification to pick up the parking stickers in person at the harbor office. Proof of current vessel insurance must be on file with the harbor office to obtain stickers.
To limit the transmission of COVID-19, entry into the harbor office will be limited to one person at a time, so please expect a short delay. Your current 2020 parking sticker will remain valid until March 31, 2021.
Parking permits for landside tenants will be available for pickup on Monday, March 1, 2021.

The Port District's replacement water taxi has arrived! The District took delivery of the new vessel on Saturday, January 30, 2021, and is performing necessary sea trials. It is anticipated that water taxi service will resume this summer, pending compliance with COVID-19 related health and safety protocols. Stay tuned for more information. |

Each year, the Santa Cruz County Assessor's office charges possessory interest tax to vessels berthed in the Santa Cruz Harbor. The possessory interests are assessments made for the private use of otherwise nontaxable publicly owned property, including boat slips.
Please direct any questions concerning your possessory interest assessment to the County Assessor's office at (831) 454-2002.

It's not too late to pay your 2021 waiting list renewal! To avoid late fees and interest, payments must be received by February 20, 2021.

The Port District is pleased to introduce Carl Wulf as the new Facilities Maintenance and Engineering Manager.
Carl has a Mechanical Technology degree, and for the past 14 years has served as the Facilities/Capital Projects Manager for Monterey-Salinas Transit. He is experienced in fleet maintenance, is a journeyman machinist, a welder-fabricator, mechanically inclined, and adept in automotive maintenance and repair.
We believe that Carl’s mix of facilities management, capital improvement planning, and construction experience will serve the Port District well, and we look forward to his contributions.

Marine Safety Information Bulletins (MSIB)
The Port District has received the following Marine Safety Information Bulletin from the U.S. Coast Guard regarding the President’s Executive Order which requires that masks be worn on all public maritime vessels, including commercial vessels.

Entrance Channel Dredging Update
Recent winter storms and a series of unrelenting large swell events have deposited large amounts of sand in the harbor entrance. Many thanks to members of the dredge crew who have worked hard to address the shoal, repair equipment following untimely breakdowns, and achieve impressive production in the midst of sunny weather and high beach visitorship!
Favorable weather is forecast for the coming weeks, so the crew will plan their movement to maximize production and gain greater depths in the entrance. Mariners are currently advised not to transit the entrance for their safety and the safety of their vessels but are encouraged to continue to monitor the progress being made in restoring navigability of the entrance by monitoring the sounding. During dredging operations, pass Twin Lakes on the east side (Crow's Nest side) of the channel unless otherwise marked. Stay at least 50' from the dredge. When dredging is underway, contact the crew for passing instructions on VHF channel 8.
North Harbor Dredging Update
North harbor dredging continues its march north in the X/J channel using the Port District’s 8” dredge Squirt. Dredging of fine-grained material is permitted through February 28, 2021, while dredging of sandy, coarse-grained material is permitted through April 30, 2021.

The Santa Cruz Port District would like to recognize the rescue efforts of the surfers who responded to the unfortunate incident that took place on Sunday, January 10, 2021, when 12 small dinghies from the Santa Cruz Yacht Club’s (SCYC) Junior Sailing Program were overturned as they attempted to transit the entrance during a high surf advisory. Fortunately, everyone is safe.
It is not uncommon for local surfers to perform life-saving water rescues when needed. Special thanks to the community of surfers who paddled the young sailors to safety at the Santa Cruz Harbor that day.
